Scotty is a legend. He looks at golf instruction from a different perspective. He thinks us golfers are a crazy lot and need to back our learning capabilities more.
Last week he sent the below quote to me. I wasn’t expecting it but it rocked me – maybe the best quote I’ve seen in relation to the madness of the golf swing technique obsession.
“Typical golf coaches are so full of themselves they think they can change how someone’s body moves, and that the golfer needs them to remodel their swing to be able to play and enjoy themselves. So egocentric. Immature.….”
Scott says that it came to him when reading this article about Sean Foley. Scott said, “Some great ideas in there except for the typical “swing” stuff. It’s like they know that there’s more to the game than the golf swing but they can’t break away from it”.
Interestingly Tiger Woods has terminated Foley’s coaching arrangement. It still amazes me that Tiger thinks he needs a swing coach. I wish he would forget all the positions and attempting to improve upon perfection and just go hit that damn ball! Play Tiger, play!

October 9, 2014I think tiger woods could win 6 more majors if he wanted to. Or less or more. But one thing im sure of, he could win another. I bet the media will say if he wins another major, “hes back”, but the truth is he never went away. He still has his game, hes just not using it. Hes very competitive, so he needs to stop working on his swing, swing like he used to, without injuries. Usually, a contrived move such as restricting hip turn puts stress on the lower back, terrible twisting forces. The only technical instruction id ever give him would be to turn his hips fully, bend the left knee outward, and lift the left heel a bit. And open his toes towards the outside of his body. Why? So he doesnt injure himself further. It would only be for his health, not because I want to improve his swing, but because he needs to be healthy. He could then automate it and use it. Usually, any move that contorts the human body is bad for it. Most of the time, when we swing automatically, the turning the hips fully back, toes pointed outward, etc. Happen naturally. You dont need to work on it, it happens on its own, because your body knows whats good for it. In everyday automatic movement you dont hold your hips still while youre turning around to look at someone do you? Your hips turn as well. This happens automatically. You dont think about it. If tiger was automatic he wouldnt have so much strain and injuries.
